NAIMOS Conducts Joint Anti-Galamsey Operation With Nzema East Blue Water Guard

22nd August 2025
With unity of purpose and in the spirit of collaboration towards fighting the Galamsey menace, the NAIMOS Taskforce on Friday 22 August 2025, successfully conducted a joint anti-galamsey operation with the Blue Water Guards at ABELEBO and AKANGO communities in the Nzema East Municipality. The goal was to clamp down on illegal mining activities within and around the Ankobra river. The raids were necessitated by the alarming rate of devastation done by the illegal miners to the Ankobra river and the general environment in the affected communities. It was also based on very credible intelligence from some local informants and the Blue Water Guards.

The Galamseyers who were spotted mining in large numbers on the river through the drone footage, took to their heels upon sensing and sighting the aggressive posture and huge numbers of NAIMOS and Blue water Guards.

Several equipment and items used by the miners including Fifty (50) chanfang machines, polytanks generators and pipe lines were destroyed at the sites. The task Force also destroyed through burning, several makeshift structures erected along the course of the river Ankobra and used as shelters by the illegal miner.

Others items including refrigerators, motor bike, pvc pipe, and some excavator parts left behind were seized by the task force.

As envisioned, NAIMOS remains poised to continue such close collaboration with the increasing numbers of the Blue Water Guards deployed at towns along Ghana’s water bodies in the fight against Galamsey.
