Ghanaians living in the country’s capital Accra, will soon be alluring fresh and clean air as ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ initiative has officially commenced on Tuesday, February 1 this year.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, said the initiative is not to deprive traders and street hawkers in the capital of their livelihood but to ensure their safety and to rid of filth in the city.
He also hinted of recruiting about three thousand, five hundred people to be trained and deployed to enforced existing by-laws in the capital.
The exercise which marked the commencement of the implementation and enforcement of the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ by-laws, is to ensure that households, business and individuals clean their frontage, surroundings and immediate environs.
National Service Personnel and security officials from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service drawn from across the region converged at the Black Stars Square on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 and deployed in busses to the various districts for the clean-up exercise.
The policy seeks to among other objectives, make it obligatory for all individuals and corporate entities to be responsible for the cleaning and greening of their immediate surroundings.
The necessary by-laws have been passed and gazette by the twenty-nine assemblies in the greater Accra region to enable the lawful implantation of the initiative.
Zoomlion Ghana, the lead company responsible for the collection of the collected piles of filths asked the general public to play their part and practice personal hygiene at all times.
