A newly-outdoored civil society group, Coalition for Democratic Accountability and Inclusive Governance has called on government to render a comprehensive accountability to the citizens for state funds among others. In an interaction with the media, Member of the group who doubles as Executive Director of West Africa Civil Society Institute, Nana Asantewaa Afadzinu, bemoaned corruption in the public sector which remains an existential threat to Ghana’s democracy. She also called on the public to wake up to their responsibilities and insist the right things are done for the betterment of the nation. The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has added his voice to the call by some Ghanaians of hardship in the country. He made this known when the food and agriculture minister paid a courtesy call on him during his working visit to the region to interact with farmers in the region to ascertain first-hand information facing the farmers. The staff of Zoomlion Ghana limited, a firm that provides waste management and environmental sanitation services have held a health walk in collaboration with the media. The three-hour event-themed ‘walk for clean environment’ began at the Ayi Mensah toll booth and ended at the Peduase Methodist junior high school. It was all joy and funfair as staff of the waste management giant participated in the energy-sapping activity designed to enable them to live healthier and longer. The activity which was interspersed with music saw participants screened medically and treated with intensive aerobics. They also took part in archery and tug of war. Artisans working and operating at the Arts Centre in Accra have expressed worry over poor working conditions which are affecting the success and sustainability of their business. Spanning over a period of forty decades since its inception, the sorrowful state and conditions surrounding these artisans leaves much to be desired, one that can best be described as inhumane, and requires an overhaul. Unhygienic conditions in the area, smoke emanating from the burning of refuse, miscreants, people with mental disorders and children loitering around has had an impact on their lives. Artisans and traders at the Arts Centre are enraged with the activities of miscreants serving as middle men whose nefarious activities has affected patronage of wares at the facility. The commercially viable hub which deals in historical relics and artifacts has seen a downward spiral due to the activities of self-styled middle men popularly known as Goro boys. Their heinous activity has also made business unbearable and unattractive. In an interview, a clothier Kwame Nketia raised concern over their illicit dealings and called for a collaborative effort to curb their unauthorized operations. Two armed robbers who were arrested by the police in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each for robbery. The two Emeka Opara and Samuel Kalo, were arrested on May 30, 2022, following their attack on a victim at ECOBANK, Abrepo Junction, where they succeeded in bolting with a bag containing an amount of Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵ 30, 000.00). The Police were able to retrieve the GH₵ 30, 000.00 and successfully prosecute them.
