2/10/2024 The Accra Sports Stadium has been approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Ghana and Sudan. The approval follows CAF’s inspection of both the Cape Coast Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium last week after which the former was disapproved. CAF earlier directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to select an alternate venue for the game after the Baba Yara Stadium was banned. 01/10/2024 President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has vehemently denied allegations that the selection of players into the national team by coaches is always influenced by the association. The FA President appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Monday, September 30, 2024, to answer questions and concerns raised about happenings at the Association. Responding to allegations of influencing player selection decisions, Kurt clarified that the GFA creates an enabling environment where coaches work without interference. “They [national team coaches] have made public statements not once, not twice about the environment this FA has created to enable them to work,” he said. 30/9/2024 George Saijah, Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana has revealed that members of the Association who are appointed to officiate Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches are paid a sum of GHS1,000 as a take home pay after every game. Mr. Saijah made this assertion during a probe into the petition submitted by the ‘Save Ghana Football Forum’ in February this year, saying referees who officiate the country’s top flight are paid one thousand cedis per match. He added that referees who officiate Division One League also take home GHc750.00. “[The salary] is a take-home of 1,000 cedis for Premier League referees. 27/9/2024 The Under 20 men’s football team of Ghana, the Black Satellites, will lock horns with their counterparts from Togo, Benin, and Niger in the 2024 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Championship. The Satellites have been drawn in Group A of the tournament which runs from October 17 to October 31, 2024. The draw, which was confirmed yesterday, Thursday, September 26, 2024, will see the top two ranked nations progress to the next stage of the tournament after series of power-packed games.
