9/9/2024

The Black Princesses of Ghana have exited the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite winning their last game on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

The Ghana’s Princesses triumphed over their counterparts from New Zealand in their final group game by a 3-1 goal margin.

Yussif Basigi’s side failed to find the back of New Zealand’s net despite starting off as the stronger team.

Realising the dominance of the Princesses in search of goal, New Zealand fiercely defended their attacking tactics sending both teams into the break barren.

Basigi’s changes to the second group game team paid off as Ghana found the back of the net in the early minutes of the second half.

Salamatu Abdulai secured her first goal by breaking the deadlock with a beautiful header to give Ghana the lead.

Just four minutes after the deadlock had been broken, New Zealand responded with an equaliser with a delightful chip beating Ghanaian goalkeeper Jenna Sarpong.

With just twelve minutes left on the clock, Salamatu restored Ghana’s lead in the 72nd minute with Tracey Twum wrapping up the win with a rebound in the 95th minute.

Salamatu Abdulai’s brace and Tracey Twum’s goal sealed a consolation victory for Ghana in the competition.

Despite the victory, Ghana exits the tournament having failed to progress as one of the four best third-placed teams.
