The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held its regional executive elections as part of efforts to re-organize and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The elections took place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with delegates across the country voting to elect executives who will oversee the party’s activities and coordinate its structures at the regional level.

The positions contested included Regional Chairman, First and Second Vice Chairpersons, Secretary, Treasurer, Organizer, Women’s Organizer, Youth Organizer, Communications Officer and Nasara Coordinator.

The exercise forms part of the NPP’s broader internal reorganization, which began with elections at the polling station and constituency levels. The party deployed national representatives to the regions to supervise the process and ensure adherence to its electoral guidelines.

Voting was generally peaceful across the country, although there were isolated challenges in some areas. In the Upper West Region, for instance, voting was temporarily disrupted at the Wa Technical Institute following an incident involving some delegates from the Nandom Constituency.

The elections have also produced new leadership in several regions. In Greater Accra, former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye was elected Regional Chairman, while Odeneho Kwaku Appiah emerged as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman.

The newly elected executives now face the task of strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, improving mobilization and promoting unity among members.

With the NPP seeking to rebuild after its performance in the 2024 general elections, the regional executives are expected to play a crucial role in developing strategies to restore the party’s support base and position it for the 2028 general elections.

Party leaders and supporters have therefore been urged to close ranks and work together, including with unsuccessful aspirants, as the party moves into the next phase of its internal reorganization.

The NPP says the successful completion of the regional elections puts the party in a stronger position to consolidate its structures and begin preparations towards the 2028 political contest.
