Story by George Yawson Vineh

The National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme has expressed satisfaction over the significant progress made in the introduction of an improved digital data collection system aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in the programme.

According to the Coordinator, the upgraded system is already transforming the way data is gathered, processed, and monitored across beneficiary schools nationwide. The digital platform is expected to replace manual reporting methods, reduce errors, and provide real-time insights into feeding activities.

At an event to pilot a training for trainees at Aburi in the Eastern Region on Tuesday May 6, 2026, the National Coordinator, Hajia Fati Forgor noted that the innovation will strengthen accountability, ensure timely payments to caterers, and improve decision-making processes within the programme. He added that the system will also help track enrolment, attendance, and meal distribution more accurately.

She further described the transition as a major step toward modernizing the programme and aligning it with global best practices in public service delivery and commended field officers, caterers, and partner institutions for their cooperation and commitment in piloting the new system, assuring that continuous training and technical support will be provided to ensure a smooth rollout.

On her part, Head of Social Protection Unit at the Finance Ministry, Constance Baah urged trainees to focus on three key areas in assessing data for processing to enable its intended purpose.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme continues to play a critical role in improving school enrolment, retention, and nutrition among pupils, particularly in underserved communities.

The Secretariat reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to sustain and enhance the impact of the programme across the country.

The joint Programme is under the auspices of the World Food Programme and the KOICA as well as the government of Ghana with 284 electronic gadgets to be distributed some selected districts in the country for data collection.
