Speaking at the inauguration of 10 colleges of education at GTEC in Accra, Mr. Iddrisu underscored the government’s commitment to sustaining both policies, despite the huge financial burden they pose on the state. He disclosed that the government is expected to spend between GH¢400 million and GH¢500 million annually to keep the initiatives running. The Minister also outlined a long-term financing strategy for education. He proposed that 2.5 percent of the country’s petroleum revenue be dedicated to human capital development. He explained that in 2023, government began the construction of 45 hostels across 46 Colleges of Education, but progress has been uneven. “Nine of the projects are nearing completion, 11 have made steady progress, while 25 have stalled,” he disclosed.
