NDC Holds Sectorial Briefing on 2024 Manifesto: Elucidates on Health, Education and Security Policies.

By Stanley Kwabla Arku

Following the launch of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2024 manifesto over the weekend, the party held a sectorial briefing to provide the public with a deeper understanding of their policy proposals.

The event featured presentations by key members of the party, who elaborated on specific sectors like health and security, offering insights into how the NDC plans to address critical national issues if elected into power in 2024.

Health Sector Plans

NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Lambussie-Karni Constituency and party’s Spokesperson on Health Dr. Titus Beyuo, led the discussion on the party’s health agenda. He outlined a robust strategy aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the country.

One of the major promises was the construction of a 500-bed children’s hospital, which is intended to cater to the growing health needs of the younger population. In addition to this, the NDC pledged to refurbish the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana’s two largest health facilities. These renovations are expected to bring the hospitals up to world-class standards and expand their capacity to deliver high-quality healthcare.

Another key aspect of the NDC’s health policy is the establishment of a quaternary hospital in the Volta Region. This facility will provide specialized medical care and reduce the need for Ghanaians to travel abroad for certain treatments.

On health worker welfare, Dr. Titus Beyuo announced the introduction of scholarship opportunities for health practitioners to further their education and training, both locally and internationally. Additionally, the party plans to implement a risk exposure scheme for health practitioners, offering financial and psychological support to healthcare workers, especially those exposed to high-risk situations. The NDC will also introduce a homeowners’ scheme to enable health workers to own homes, improving their quality of life and job satisfaction.

Security and Law Enforcement

Member of Parliament for Wa West and the party’s spokesperson on Security Peter Lanchene Toobu, emphasized the party’s commitment to improving the welfare of men and women in uniform, promising to construct and refurbish housing units for security personnel across the country. This initiative aims to provide comfortable accommodation for officers and their families, enhancing morale and service delivery.

In line with the NDC’s proposal for a 24-hour economy, Toobu highlighted that the party would recruit 25,000 additional police officers. These officers will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, especially in an economy that will operate round the clock. This increase in police presence will ensure the safety of citizens and businesses, reducing crime and fostering a secure environment for economic growth.

The sectorial briefing provided a detailed glimpse into the NDC’s vision for the health and security sectors. The party’s ambitious plans reflect its determination to address some of Ghana’s most pressing challenges, offering practical solutions to improve healthcare, boost security, and enhance the welfare of essential workers.
