The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Regional Security Council, has officially notified the public of the annual ban on drumming and noise making across the region.
The directive, which forms part of preparations towards the celebration of the Homowo Festival, is aimed at maintaining peace, solemnity, and respect for traditional customs during the sacred period.
According to a press release from the Council, the ban takes effect from today Monday, 6 May 2026 to Thursday, June 4, 2026 and will be observed across the Ga State within which all forms of drumming, use of loudspeakers, roadside evangelism, and other noise-making activities are strictly prohibited.
However, the traditional areas of Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua Tema, Prampram, and Ningo will observe the ban during different periods. These dates are expected to be announced in due course by their respective Traditional Councils.
Residents, religious bodies, event organizers, and the general public are therefore urged to comply fully with the directive. The Council emphasized that the ban is a long-standing tradition observed by the Ga State and must be respected by all, regardless of background or affiliation.
The Regional Security Council has assured that it will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure strict adherence. Persons who flout the directive will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council further called on community leaders and the public to support efforts in maintaining harmony and mutual respect throughout the period.
This annual exercise is considered crucial in preserving cultural heritage and ensuring a peaceful environment ahead of the Homowo festivities.
