The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development is set to embark on a nationwide tour of inland fishing communities as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s fisheries sub-sector.
The tour is aimed at engaging key stakeholders, including fisherfolk, processors, and local authorities, while gathering firsthand information on the current state of inland fisheries across the country.
According to a press statement signed by tge Public Unit of the Ministry, the exercise will provide a platform for direct interaction with communities along major water bodies, enabling the Minister to better understand the challenges affecting productivity, sustainability, and livelihoods within the sub-sector.
Issues such as access to premix fuel, post-harvest losses, illegal fishing practices, and infrastructure deficits are expected to feature prominently during the engagements.
The statement says findings from the tour will help shape targeted policies and interventions to improve the inland fisheries value chain and ensure long-term sustainability.
The initiative also forms part of government’s broader commitment to supporting fishing communities and enhancing food security nationwide.
