Deputy Minister Urges Completion Of Legacy Projects, Efficient Use Of Funds

The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, who is also Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon, has urged the Adenta Municipal Assembly to prioritise the completion of legacy projects and ensure efficient utilisation of public funds.

She made the call during a District Accountability Series visit to the Assembly, where she led a delegation from the Ministry to assess performance and the use of statutory funds, including the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

Hon. Sowah said an earlier assessment showed that the Assembly had utilised only 6% of its DACF allocation. However, she noted that utilisation had improved to over 50% between March and June, with progress recorded in education, health, sanitation, and ongoing infrastructure projects.

She expressed concern over delays in the completion of long standing projects, warning that such delays increase costs and undermine development outcomes. She therefore urged the Assembly to fast-track the completion of all legacy projects.

The Deputy Minister also commended the Assembly’s plastic waste recycling initiative but encouraged its expansion, particularly in flood-prone and high-density communities.

She further called for improved management of funds allocated for persons with disabilities through a comprehensive beneficiary register to ensure accountability and targeted support.

Hon. Rita Naa  Odoley Sowah urged Assembly Members to strengthen oversight of public expenditure and ensure effective communication of development projects to citizens. She added that the Ministry would undertake a field verification exercise to confirm implementation of reported interventions.
