Leader of APC describes the recent hike in utilities tariffs as worrying

Leader of All Peoples Congress Dr. Hassan Abdulai Ayariga has described the recent hike in utility tariffs as worrying and believes that the two utility companies are underperforming.

His comment comes following the increment which took effect today September 1, 2022.

Water and electricity tariffs have shot up by 21per cent and 27.15 per cent in that order by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and took effect today.

This follows a proposal by the two utility companies a few months ago to enable them deliver better for their customers.

But the Leader of All Peoples Congress, Dr. Hassan Ayariga says he as a consumer believes these two companies are under performing and the only way the Electricity Company of Ghana for instance can survive is to address the loopholes in the company.

He also called for the sale of the state-owned power distribution firm to him for prudent management if it lacks the technical knowhow in generating revenue.

In effect, individual customer’s tariff percentage increase will depend on customer’s classification and consumption category, also exclusive lifeline beneficiaries’ consumption has been pegged 30kWh to the new bands for residential customers.
