Former New Patriotic Party National Chairman, Paul Awentami Afoko, is filing his nomination to contest the NPP National Chairmanship election, promising to unite the party, rebuild its structures and lead a determined campaign to recapture power in the 2028 general elections.
Afoko, who previously served as National Chairman, is seeking a return to the position as the party prepares for a major internal reorganisation following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The former National Chairman is expected at the NPP headquarters in Accra to submit his completed nomination forms for the chairmanship contest.
His candidacy is anchored on what he describes as the “3R Agenda” Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture.
Afoko says the NPP must first heal its internal divisions, rebuild its grassroots structures and restore confidence among its supporters if the party is to mount a successful comeback. “We must reunite the party, rebuild our structures and recapture power.”
The former chairman has been engaging delegates and party supporters across the country, making a case for a united NPP capable of winning elections across the regions.
His campaign message is also looking beyond the party’s internal elections, with Afoko positioning the chairmanship as a crucial platform for preparing the NPP for the 2028 general elections.
He is promising a stronger grassroots organisation and a coordinated national campaign aimed at winning back the confidence of voters across Ghana. “Our objective is not simply to win an internal election. We are preparing the party to win the general elections and recapture power.”
Afoko is not alone in the race.
Five aspirants had picked nomination forms for the National Chairman position by the close of nominations: Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
The NPP has recorded 50 aspirants for its national executive positions, with vetting scheduled for August 31 to September 3.
The party’s National Officers Elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026.
For Paul Afoko, the immediate task is to win the confidence of NPP delegates and ultimately build what his campaign believes can become a winning political machine ahead of the 2028 general elections.
