SMG STATEMENT ON U.S. AGGRESSION AGAINST VENEZUELA. AFRICA NEWS LOCAL POLITICS by panafricantv - January 4, 2026January 4, 20260 The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) unequivocally condemns the escalating acts of aggression, military intimidation, and open interference by the United States of America against the BolivarianRepublic of Venezuela. The recent hijacking of vessels, the bombardment of Venezuelan territoryincluding direct military attacks on the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira and the kidnapping ofPresident Nicolás Maduro and his wife represent a dangerous and criminal escalation in the long-standingimperialist war against the Venezuelan people and their revolutionary project. These military assaults, which have endangered civilian lives and destroyed critical infrastructure, constitute acts of war against a sovereign nation. They further expose the willingness of U.S. imperialismto use brute force to impose its will, destabilise elected governments, and terrorise populations that resistdomination. These actions are not isolated incidents, but part of a well-documented and carefullyorchestrated imperialist strategy aimed at overthrowing the Bolivarian Revolution, dismantlingVenezuela’s sovereignty, and seizing control of the country’s vast oil and natural resources for the benefitof U.S. capital and its multinational corporations. This imperialist intent has now been made explicit at the highest political level. In a recent pressconference, U.S. President Donald Trump arrogantly declared that the United States is going to “runVenezuela,” a statement that amounts to an open confession of plans for foreign domination, occupation, and regime imposition. Such remarks strip away the hypocrisy of U.S. rhetoric and confirm that theaggression against Venezuela is not about democracy or human rights, but about imperial control, economic plunder, and geopolitical domination. Under the false banners of “democracy,” “human rights,” and “security,” U.S. imperialism continues towage economic warfare, impose illegal sanctions, sponsor internal destabilisation, and now openly deploymilitary force against a sovereign nation that has dared to chart an independent path in defence of itspeople and its resources. The SMG views the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife as an act of international banditry and a gross violation of international law. It is an attack not only on the Venezuelan state, but onthe collective right of our peoples to self-determination, political independence, and control over theirown resources. This assault on Venezuela is therefore an assault on all progressive, anti-imperialiststruggles across Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean. The Bolivarian Revolution has, for decades, stood as a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples worldwide. It has demonstrated that it is possible to prioritise social needs over corporate profit, to redistribute wealth in favour of the working class and the poor, and to resist imperial domination through popular organisation and political consciousness. It is precisely these achievements that imperialism seeks to destroy through sanctions, sabotage, military aggression, and regime-change operations. As Africans, we cannot remain silent. Our history of colonialism, neo-colonial exploitation, militaryintervention, and resource plunder binds our struggle inseparably to that of the Venezuelan people. The same forces that bomb Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira today are the forces that have within the last fewweeks launched military strikes on Nigeria with the intent of igniting religious tensions, impose IMFausterity, loot African resources, militarise our states, and repress popular movements across Africa. The Socialist Movement of Ghana therefore calls on all progressive forces, workers’ organisations, youthmovements, women’s movements, revolutionary parties, and popular organisations to rise in defence ofVenezuela and the Bolivarian Revolution. We call not only for international solidarity but for immediatetangible actions at the national level in each of our countries. In particular, we urgently call on all organisations within the Pan-Africanism Today (PAT) project, theWest African Peoples Organization (WAPO), and the International Peoples Assembly (IPA) toimmediately mobilise coordinated political action, public statements, demonstrations, and internationalsolidarity campaigns to: Organize pickets and deliver letters of protest at U.S. embassies and consulates, demanding an endto the aggression. Petition our own governments and parliaments to publicly condemn U.S. military intervention andto sever any military or intelligence cooperation with the aggressor. Launch coordinated social media campaigns using hashtags like #HandsOffVenezuelaFreeMaduro to break the media blockade and spread the truth. Hold popular assemblies, political education workshops, and documentary screenings in ourcommunities, universities, and workplaces to expose the imperialist strategy aimed at seizingresources. Condemn U.S. imperialist aggression against Venezuela in all its forms, including military attackson civilians. Demand the immediate and unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Reject any foreign military intervention, occupation and regime change in Venezuela. Defend the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people and their right to determine their own politicaland economic future. This is a defining moment that demands clarity, courage, and action. The defence of Venezuela today is the defence of all peoples resisting exploitation, domination, and imperialist control. “History teaches us that silence in the face of imperialist aggression only emboldens it. We have witnessed the consequences of the interventions in Libya, Iraq, and Syria: shattered states, hundreds of thousands dead, refugee crises, and the flourishing of terrorism. Our collective protest today can be the deterrent that prevents a full-scale war.The Socialist Movement of Ghana stands firmly with the people of Venezuela, with the BolivarianRevolution, and with all forces struggling for a world free from imperialist, exploitation, and oppression. Time is up, solidarity is not a spectator sport, it is action. Every organization, every trade union, every conscious citizen must take the first step today our speed and resolve will determine whether the aggressor can be stopped. From Accra to Caracas, our rallying cry is one: Workers of the world, unite! Let us stop imperialism in its tracks! Hands off Venezuela! Signed.
