We Don’t Need Another Sermon – Vice President Urges Collective Action on Sanitation LOCAL POLITICS by panafricantv - July 10, 2026July 10, 20260 Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians to turn their knowledge of proper sanitation into action, stressing that protecting communities from flooding begins with responsible individual behaviour. Speaking after joining residents and members of the security services for the National Two-Day Clean-up Exercise at Nungua on Friday, the Vice President said Ghanaians already understand the importance of keeping their environment clean and must now commit to making it a daily responsibility. “We all know the right things. We don’t need any sermon. We know. Let’s do the right thing and protect each other and protect our country,” she said. Professor Opoku-Agyemang observed that indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains continues to impede the natural flow of water, increasing the risk of flooding in many communities. She described the situation as a reminder of the important role every citizen has in safeguarding lives, property and the environment. The Vice President encouraged the public to sustain the spirit of the national clean-up exercise by adopting responsible sanitation practices beyond the campaign, noting that lasting environmental change requires the collective commitment of all Ghanaians. She also commended residents, volunteers and the security agencies for their active participation, describing their contribution as a demonstration of patriotism, solidarity and shared responsibility. “This is a time we should all show love, we should all support each other. I want to thank you all for coming out to help,” she said. The National Two-Day Clean-up Exercise forms part of government’s broader efforts to promote environmental sanitation, strengthen community participation and reduce the incidence of flooding across the country.
