The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings has paid a working visit to the Secretariat of the Electrical and Electronic Waste Management Fund to assess its operations and discuss measures to strengthen the management of electronic waste in Ghana.
The visit on Wednesday September 23, 2026 forms part of efforts to promote environmentally sustainable practices and improve the country’s response to the growing challenge of electronic waste.
The Minister, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was received by officials of the Electrical and Electronic Waste Management Fund Secretariat, who briefed the Minister on the Fund’s mandate, ongoing programmes and key challenges confronting the management of electrical and electronic waste.
Discussions focused on strategies to enhance the collection, treatment and responsible disposal of electronic waste, while promoting recycling and resource recovery of which she charged the secretariat to help the government in curbing mismanagement of e-waste in Ghana.
The Minister also stressed the importance of collaboration among government institutions, industry players, waste management companies and the public in addressing the environmental and health risks associated with improperly discarded electronic devices.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Minister to examine the Secretariat’s systems and activities and identify areas requiring greater support to improve efficiency and accountability.
Officials of the Secretariat highlighted the need for sustained investment, public education and stronger enforcement of regulations to ensure that electronic waste is managed in an environmentally sound manner.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a circular economy, reduce environmental pollution and create opportunities from the recovery and recycling of valuable materials contained in electronic waste.
The working visit ended with a call for strengthened partnerships and coordinated action to ensure that Ghana develops a more effective and sustainable electronic waste management system.
The visit is expected to deepen collaboration between the Ministry and the Electrical and Electronic Waste Management Fund Secretariat as Ghana intensifies efforts to address the growing volume of electronic waste and protect the environment
