Ghana will mark World Tourism Day 2026 with a week-long celebration in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, from Saturday, September 26 to Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The celebration, which will be fused with the Eastern Expo 2026, is being held under the theme, “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment.”
It is expected to bring together tourism operators, businesses, exhibitors, investors, policymakers, cultural practitioners and members of the public. This is contained in a press statement issued by the Head of Public Relations of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Art, Delassie M. Awuku.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, September 28, with the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, expected to lead the ceremony.
Activities will begin on Saturday, September 26, with a health walk designed to promote wellness and encourage public participation as Koforidua prepares to welcome visitors from across the country.
On Sunday, September 27, which is observed globally as World Tourism Day, participants will take part in a sensitisation workshop focusing on the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.” The session will examine the opportunities and challenges presented by digital technology and artificial intelligence in transforming Ghana’s tourism sector.
The programme will also feature seminars bringing together experts and industry players to discuss tourism promotion, sustainable development and practical opportunities for investment and enterprise development.
A major component of the celebration will be the Eastern Expo, where businesses and tourism operators will showcase products and services. The Expo is intended to create opportunities for marketing, networking, trade and investment while connecting businesses with potential partners and investors.
The Eastern Region is home to several notable tourist attractions, including Boti Falls, Aburi Botanical Gardens, the Kwahu Mountains and the Akosombo Dam, which organisers say provide significant opportunities for tourism and investment.
The celebrations are expected to highlight the contribution of tourism to economic growth, job creation, entrepreneurship and community development, while promoting the Eastern Region as an important tourism and investment destination.
The event also forms part of Ghana’s wider Black Star Experience and efforts to develop a sustainable tourism sector capable of generating opportunities for businesses and communities.
With Koforidua serving as the host city, the week-long celebration is expected to provide a platform for residents, visitors and industry stakeholders to experience the Eastern Region’s tourism, culture, enterprise and investment potential.
