Ministry of Education will convene a two-day National Conference on Stemming Indiscipline in Senior High Schools from July 29 to 30, 2026, in Sunyani, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss practical and sustainable solutions to the growing challenge of indiscipline in Ghana’s second-cycle institutions.
The conference is expected to serve as a national consultative platform for dialogue on the causes of indiscipline in senior high schools and the measures needed to restore discipline, strengthen values-based education and improve academic outcomes.
Ahead of the conference, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, held a strategic engagement with members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to discuss the current state of discipline in senior high schools and the collective responsibility required to promote discipline, character development and academic excellence across the country’s education system.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Minister to welcome distinguished guests and stakeholders who are expected to participate in the conference.
Participants will include education administrators, teachers, students, parents, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies and development partners, all of whom are expected to contribute to discussions on practical interventions to address indiscipline in schools.
The conference will examine the underlying causes of indiscipline in senior high schools and explore collaborative approaches to strengthening discipline, safeguarding students and creating conducive teaching and learning environments.
Recommendations from the two-day engagement will form the basis of a comprehensive policy paper to guide the Ministry of Education in developing a coordinated national framework for addressing indiscipline in senior high schools while reinforcing values-based education nationwide.
The Ministry expressed confidence that the conference would mark a significant step towards building safer, more disciplined and academically conducive learning environments for students, while strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to uphold discipline and excellence in Ghana’s senior high schools.
